The 1998 White Sands Balloon Invitational was my second rally. Being my home town rally I am also on the WSBI Committee. We have a ball making it happen each year. We decided to limit the rally to 60 balloons as there is limited space in the White Sands Monument parking lot where we launch. We can handle 30 balloons if we squeeze and do two waves. In town we have the remaining 30 balloons taking off from wherever. The sponsors seem to like this so we continued. A few sponsors like to take off from their business others would rather fly over their house, school, church or business.
On Friday night we start with pilot registration which includes a buffet dinner for pilots, crew, and sponsors. We try and match up the pilots and sponsors because it is hard to do so on Saturday morning with the group split between in city and White Sands briefings.
